ABOUT ME
Hi! This is Chelsea, creator of the Beauty of Batik website. I created the Beauty of Batik website for a few different reasons. First, and foremost, quite simply put, I love batik. I have been creating and studying batik since junior high school. Over the years my knowledge and skill have grown thanks primarily to the fact that I had wonderful teachers who got my foray into the art of batik started off on the right foot. Since I had such a good foundation in the creation of batik I have been able to branch off and learn a lot on my own as well. My knowledge base never stops growing. There are so many different varied methods of batik and the history of batik is so very rich that there will always be new things to learn.
This is the reason that I started the Beauty of Batik website. Just like my teachers did, I want to give you, my guest, an excellent knowledge base to start your adventure into the world of batik. I want this website to encourage you seek out batik pieces, to explore the many ways to create batik and to understand the history and processes that go into creating a batik piece. Think of it as a jumping off point. If you are a collector I want you to come learn about how batik is created and about the history of batik and then be able to go out into the world armed with the knowledge to find and care for beautiful, high quality pieces. If are a new batik artist I want this site to provide you with the information you need to create your own high quality pieces and then I want you to come back and list your name in our Artist Directory so that collectors can view your work and buy your pieces. Above all else I hope that you will leave this site with a little more knowledge than you came with.
In case you’re interested in more personal information, here is a bit of a personal biography. I am mom to a sweet (most of the time!) little boy and partner to his father, Jacob. I am also a parent to two dogs, four cats, two angora rabbits and a flock of chickens. I have a small studio in Louisville, KY called Solstice Fiber Arts Studio where I not only create batik, but also do some knitting and felting as well. I also run a blog about urban homesteading atWalnut Cottage Homestead. My formal education consists of a B.A. in Arts Administration and an MBA, both from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY. While I do have a 9 to 5 job at the moment I am working very hard to make the switch to working from home so that our son and I can join Jacob at his current job in North Dakota.
Finally, thank you so much for visiting the Beauty of Batik website! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Chelsea
